The range of the ML-L3 is approximately 5 meters or 16 feet from the infrared (IR) receiver. It is correct that the D610 has both front and rear IR receivers that can pick up the signal from the ML-L3. We are sorry if you were given different information when you called. The location of the IR receivers on the D610 can be found in the diagrams on page 2 (front receiver) and page 4 (rear receiver) in the D610 User’s Manual. A copy of the D610 User’s Manual can be downloaded from here: http://downloadcenter.nikonimglib.c.... For more info on using the ML-L3 see pages 85-87.

Good answer above regarding the front and rear sensors on the D610 and the remote working from the front or rear of the D610. After much digging I found the same info. However, calling Nikon support the person there said "no it will only work from the front of the D610". They are wrong though as this remote will work from the front and rear. Nikon phone support is "iffy" at best.

There are two sensors on the D610, one in front and one in the rear of the camera body. The ML-L3 emits an infrared light and will not work unless it is facing the front or rear of the camera. It has a range of about 15 feet.

The ML-L3 is not compatible with the AW120. Nikon does not currently make a remote release that is compatible with the AW120. However, the shutter can be triggered remotely using the AW120's built in Wi-fi and the Nikon WMU app on a compatible Android or iOS smart device. For more information on using the AW120's built-in Wi-fi please visit: http://www.nikonusa.com/en/Nikon-Pr... .
