No, all settings are programmed auto and the slowest shutter speed is 4 seconds. You will need 10-15 second shutter speed for Northern lights.

Shutter Speed

Wondering if I can manually change the shutter speed on Coolpix aw100. Recently bought, so haven't really played around with it much, but is it possible to take low shutter speed night shots (ie. where lights are blurred)?

You cannot manually set the shutter speed. Try using some of the modes, like night landscape or fireworks or night portrait. These modes will, all hold the shutter open for various amounts of time, up to 4 seconds in fireworks mode.

The GPS information is stored in the image Exif data. You can use Nikon View NX 2 software to view the AW100 Exif Data. There is also a Map option in View NX 2 that you can click on to load google maps and display the location. More information about the AW100 GPS is in the link below.

Question

Photo preview jumps to other photo

I have the Coolpix AW100, actually I have a few of them I've bought for work and co-workers. Whenever we preview our photos on the LCD screen if you just slightly move the camera to show to someone, the photo jumps to another photo, usually the next one. Is there a way to turn this function off or stop this from happening. It happens on every single AW100 I try it on.

Thank you

Question

How to change Video Format?

How can I make the videos I record on my Nikon AW100 play in windows media player?
The videos just wont play in any format other than quicktime. I have tried a few different ones and I finally downloaded quicktime and they played. My other camera works in windows media player and I can also view them on my Wii but with this camera they don't work on the Wii or in windows media player. Just wondering if its a software thing on the camera and if I can switch it.

The COOLPIX AW100 records movies in the .MOV file format which is a file format supported by Windows Media Player. You should not need to convert the file in order to play it in Windows Media Player.

If you are clicking on the file name to open it, check your computer's Default Programs settings to see if .MOV is set to open in QuickTime by default. If so, you can change it so the default program for .MOV is Windows Media Player.

If you are able to open/play other .MOV files in Windows Media Player but still unable to play your AW100's movies then please contact Nikon Support for additional assistance - http://support.NikonUSA.com .

To transfer pictures from the AW100 internal memory to the Memory card or vice versa:
1) Insert the memory card into the camera and turn the camera on.
2)Press the playback button to put the camera into playback mode.
3)Press the Menu button, then scroll all the way down and select COPY. There you will have the options to transfer pictures from the internal memory to the memory card or from the memory card to the internal memory.
