Questions & Answers for Nikon Inc. COOLPIX AW100

Question

My Coolpix AW100 does not start properly

My AW100 has been sitting a drawer for a couple of months since last use. It was working OK when I put it away. Today, I took it out and pressed the power on button. The green light on the power button illuminated as usual, and the camera made its typical startup sound, but the screen remained dark. I waited several minutes, but nothing happened, and after that I could not shut the camera off by depressing the power button - I had to remove the battery. I tried this with a fully charged battery with the same results. What can I do?

No, all settings are programmed auto and the slowest shutter speed is 4 seconds. You will need 10-15 second shutter speed for Northern lights.

It is not the correct camera to photograph Northern Lights. You need a camera with manual mode that you can adjust shutter speed aperture and ISO.

Shutter Speed

Wondering if I can manually change the shutter speed on Coolpix aw100. Recently bought, so haven't really played around with it much, but is it possible to take low shutter speed night shots (ie. where lights are blurred)?

You cannot manually set the shutter speed. Try using some of the modes, like night landscape or fireworks or night portrait. These modes will, all hold the shutter open for various amounts of time, up to 4 seconds in fireworks mode.

The GPS information is stored in the image Exif data. You can use Nikon View NX 2 software to view the AW100 Exif Data. There is also a Map option in View NX 2 that you can click on to load google maps and display the location. More information about the AW100 GPS is in the link below.

Question

Photo preview jumps to other photo

I have the Coolpix AW100, actually I have a few of them I've bought for work and co-workers. Whenever we preview our photos on the LCD screen if you just slightly move the camera to show to someone, the photo jumps to another photo, usually the next one. Is there a way to turn this function off or stop this from happening. It happens on every single AW100 I try it on.

Thank you
