Question

I have recently purchased the Nikon L120 and I am very new to digital photography also: I want to ask a few questions:

(1) Which Scene Mode should I use to take picture of a starry sky?
(2) Why the camera is not focussing at the night sky in Fireworks Show mode?
(3) Is there any setting to increase the shutter speed from 4 seconds to higher, e.g. 10s, 15s etc.?
(4) In your Website, the Specification of L120 Self Timer shows "Can be selected from 10 and 2 seconds duration" but neither in the camera nor in the operating manual I could find a 2-Second timer. Can you please tell me how to set a 2-Second self-Timer?
(5) I am inserting a shot of moon taken by my L120, can you please guide me how to clean the grainy spots from the black areas?
Thank you

you have to keep a steady hand while it's taking the picture -- mind you, it might be a good one or two seconds from the moment when you press the shutter button. or: use a flash or use shorter shutter times, or use a shorter focal length.

Question

Why can't i upload my pictures?

I have a Mac OSX (version 10.6.7). I bought my Nixon L120 last week and today i installed the ViewNX 2 to upload my first pictures. I have tried with both that program and Iphoto but after i try to import pictures i get an error message saying "unsupported file type". is there any way i can fix this? or is there any way to know why this is happening? I'm frustrated this camera is so difficult to use with my Mac.

Question

Blurry photos, using auto modes

Hi, just got my L120 yesterday. Right out of the box, using easy mode or most of the auto modes, I get blurry pictures if there is the slightest movement. The kids, the dog, even still objects can blur. It is not "camera shake", as I've noticed that as a common answer to blurry image Q's. When zoomed in, I also get blurred images. I can see on the LCD a very focused image for just a second and then it goes out of focus or blurs. I've tried the "rock back and forth" method in attempt to bring the objects of interest into focus manually. I have read one thread here that says change the ISO speed. My wife will be using this camera, and I really can't imagine that she is going to want to play with ISO speeds in the middle of our kids sports events to control blurring. I was hoping the auto or easy modes would handle that for us. Is this a fatal flaw with this model? Please tell me I am missing something here. I was kind of hoping for a camera that we could use on auto mode most of the time, and when we wanted to get serious, we could play with the ISO speeds, etc.

Thank you!!

L-120 Try removing the batteries, turn off all programs, and let the camera sit idle for at least 24 hours. This might fix your problem. If that doesn't work send the camera to Nikon for repair.

Question

Macro Mode won't work

I just got my L120 yesterday but can't seem to get the Macro Mode to work.

The manual says while in auto mode press the flower symbol (macro mode) on the multi selector and the macro menu is displayed. When I press it nothing happens.

I take nature photos and every photo I tried taking has the main subject out of focus and everything in the background is in focus.

Am I doing something wrong that the macro mode won't work?

Either use party/indoor, pet portrait for pets, or go to the scene menu and click on sport continuous and choose from the best of those pictures you took.
