Question

Does this camera shoot RAW?

I shoot in RAW rather than JPG with my Nikon DSLR and want a smaller, "pocket camera" to carry in my purse. I currently use Canon G9 as it was one of the few that shoots RAW, but I am not happy with the noise at any ISO above 200.

Question

It appears that you get a better DOF at aperatures other than f8. What aperature do you recommend to get a wide DOF

I took some f8 images of people in the distance. When zooming in in LR3 the faces were not very sharp nor was the rest of the image. In practicing it was apparent that f6 or less gave a better DOF range than f8. True???

Can you give me step by step directions on taking 6 to 10 continuous frames of moving object? The users manual (Disc) does not illustrate this well.

I even had a very experienced photographer try to set this and she could not make it work. She finally figured it out by trial and error but could not duplicate the procedure.

You are able to select Continuous Shooting when shooting mode is P, S, A, M or U. By pressing the Continuous button on top of the camera (between the Shutter and the On/Off buttons. See page# 4 of the User's Manual) the menu will be displayed.
You will find different Options ex.: Continuous H (Shooting ends when the shutter-release button is released or five pictures have been taken) and Continuous L (While the shutter-release button is pressed all the way, about 24 pictures are capture.

Question

What is wrong with aperture priority and manual mode?

I have P500. I use it in aperture priority and manual. I have noticed that when I set the aperture to F8 at the widest zoom then zoom in all the way then zoom back out to wide the aperture changes from F8 to F4 or F 3.4. Why is it doing this and how to I get it to keep the aperture I set it at no matter how much I zoom in or out?

All lenses have a maximum aperture, or lens opening, for which to capture light. On most lenses the maximum aperture will decrease when you zoom in, as the optics move to focus at the new zoom range. These zoom lenses are said to have a "variable" aperture. To achieve the widest possible aperture, you need to be at the widest possible zoom setting.

This feature cannot be used simultaneously with certain features: When AF area mode is set to Center, while Metering is set to Spot AF area, the Metering setting automatically changes to Matrix and Metering is reset to Matrix when Active D-Lighting is set to any mode other than Off.
Please reset the camera to default settings: Go to MENU > Setup > Reset All.

Question

Class 10 Card not working in Nikon p500

This question was asked before but a clear answer was not given. I have purchased brand new two different scan disk extreme 8GB class 10 memory cards for my Nikon p500. This card was chosen based on recommendations from the user's manual for the camera. When the card is inserted into the camera, the camera gives an error message "This card cannot be used". I cannot access any menu to attempt to format the card when this error message appears. The camera is frozen until the card is removed. The card does work when inserted into the computer however. I have returned the card and purchased a new one. It does not appear to be a problem with the card at this point. Help! My next step is returning the camera.

Question

Follow-up Question to: Class 10 Card not working in Nikon p500

Staff response was to format card - Done. It was not locked or in write protected mode. And I did insert a lower class Scan Disk and it worked without problem. However - this is an approved disk according to the manual and does not work. This is a common complaint across the question board and across the internet with most people returning the camera. The only card that has worked was a class 4 - and it did not work to take videos. I read the amual and it says "Class 6 or higher is recemmended" Then why doesn't a class 10 from an approved memory card work?

Question

Why the imposed limit of 300minuts on time-lapse?

Hi,
From the answer on another question regarding time-lapse,
Limitations: 30 s (600 images), 1 min (300 images), 5 min (60 images) or 10 min (30 images).

I love the P500 and the many feauter's but why the imposed limit of 300minuts on time-lapse?
Will a future firmware remove that limit that takes a lot of the fun out of this nice feature?

Regards,

Most of the time the shooting delay is caused by focusing. Press the button half way down (and hold it in) and let the camera pre-focus; when the subject is perfect press the button the rest of the way to shoot. With a bit of practice it is easy to get the perfect photo.
