Questions & Answers for Nikon Inc. 1 NIKKOR 10mm f/2.8

Question

Why is there a small central shutter that closes when the camera turns off with this lens mounted?

In front of the aperture is a little leaf style shutter that closes when the camera turns off. Is that just to protect the insides from accidental overheating during the day?

answer 2
That's not it at all. It is a completely separate part from the lenses iris. It closes in front of it. You can see from the back that the aperture is not closed down. And also yes lenses do overheat and so do cameras. Thats why lenses good lenses focus past infinity, so that under thermal expansion they still can focus accurately. This is tho only 1 system lens that has it and is also the only lens that ive ever held that has one except the lenses for my large format camera. But they have central shutters.

Besides the cost of having VR and trying to fit it in such a small lens there is no real reason to have VR when in such a small body lens combination and if shake is an issuea tripod can always be used.

I believe so. I bought a 2 Hoya lenses on Amazon for my 1 Nikkor lenses. A 40.5mm UV Filter and a 40.5mm Circular Polarizing Filter. I just recently received the V2 as a gift and plan on using this lens, along with the 18.5 f1.8 for general and real estate photography. I have used this lens for
general and street photography and so far so good. Fish

This lens is a CX lens specifically designed for Nikon mirrorless cameras. Similar performance would be obtained on a D3000 with a 28mm lens. The D3000 is a DX format camera and is comptable with DX and FX AF-S style lenses. The D3000 does not have a built in focusing motor so non-AF-S lenses will not autofocus on the D3000.
