Landscape Lens for Nikon D5100

I have a Nikon D5100 and I have taken some pictures with 18-55 and 55-300 lenses and eventhough I use aperture mode settings, I am not getting sharp pictures. What do you recommend for a good Lense for Landscape pictures.

With long lenses, sharpness may be impacted by camera shake / motion. Use of a tripod may reduce that motion for you. It can be a pain to carry the "sticks" around, but the results can make it all worthwhile.

Well both, yes it can use the 1.7tc but depending on what camera body you intend to use it on would hinder the ability to auto focus as af would only be available on cameras with F/8 support.

The IF means internal focus, only the inside elements rotate during focusing. The outer most glass of the lens remains stationary, very useful when using a circular polarizing filter. Yes you can use this lens on the D800. The ED means extra dispersion glass so as to help avoid chromatic aberration.

Question

How practical is it to use this lens on "M" with a telextender?

I would use this lens with my D90 to take bird photos but want to use a longer telextender. Because the D90 does not support AF when using the 1.7 or 2.0 TC's, my questions are as follows: (a# how difficult would it be to focus manually, and #b# would the other functions of my D90 #exposure, etc) continue to work on automatic with a Nikon 1.7 or 2.0 TC?
