Its means that the camera controls the aperture as opposed to older lenses where the aperture was controlled by the aperture ring on the lens itself, hence all new lenses are G type. This doesnt mean to say that older lenses cant be used, all that is neede to be done is lock the aperture ring open and then control aperture from the camera body, opens a whole new world of lenses that are available.
