The AF-S DX Micro 85mm f/3.5 G Lens has a minimum aperture of f/32 at infinity focus. However, when shooting with micro lenses, increasing the reproduction ratio decreases the amount of light that is projected onto the sensor. This decrease in light causes the "effective f-number" of the lens to be higher than the original value. The camera will display the effective f-number in order to give the user an accurate representation of exposure.
