Technically, any of the DSLR cameras Nikon sells today. However, as a DX lens, it is best suited for the Nikon D300s and below. Any camera with a cropped sensor (not a full frame sensor) will get a true field of view specific to a 40mm lens. If you use a Nikon D700 or up (full frame sensor), then the field of view will not be true specific to a 40mm lens.

Actually you should be using a 80mm or 105mm for portraits. The 105 comes as a regular lens and also a Micro.

My answer is 40mm f/2.8g micro nikkor. 50mm 1.8g is definitely faster than 40mm 2.8g. But otherhand, 40 is sharper, crisper, more colorful, more versatile and slightly more resolutioned (Please see dxomarks lab test) than 50. I've just owned this and promise, IQ is excellent on all its apertures. This would be the right choice to budget DX shooters, who not intended to work in low light. Please look some fotos below. Also note that all these pictures are jpeg pictures, no post process or retouch and directly from Nikon D5100 with 40mm f/2.8G AF-S micro nikkor . And one thing, as I am newbie in photography, please don't postmortum the fotos.

Question

Should I get this lens instead of the nikon 60mm af-s micro for the nikon d3000?

Is it true that this lens with D3000 (Dx) is equal in Field of view (focal length) to the 60 mm af-s. If that is true, wouldn't it be better to get the nikon 40mm af-s micro lens over the 60mm. Or are there other differences?

P5100 - Lens Query

Hi,

I bought P5100 Coolpix camera from B&H some years back. I am not very happy with the images especially with Zoom capabilities, closeups and sharpness of the pictures.

Could you please suggest if I can buy any lens that gives me all these and is also reasonable at price. But I want to make sure that it is really worth buying so is asking in Nikon's website.

Please help with my query.
