No. The grip is threaded in the exact same location as the camera, therefore it is only capable of horizontal mounting. I've never actually seen a grip with vertical mounting capability.

If you look on page 239 of the user manual there is a good picture showing the removal of the door.
You lift the door about 35 degrees and then pull the door straight out. It should click out without much pressure.

Question

MB-D80

There seems to be a connection problem with the pins inside the battery compartment of the D90 and the connection points on the MB-D80 battery grip. Sometimes it will read the "Left" battery and other times it will not. Is there a fix for this? I have read on a number of forums, this is a problem with the middle pin and a design flaw.

The MB-D80 Multi-Power Battery Pack is not the compatible battery pack for the Nikon D5000 DSLR camera but is instead used only for the Nikon D80 and the Nikon D90. The compatible battery pack for the Nikon D5000 consists of two accessories; the EP-5 Power Supply Connector and the EH-5a AC Adapter. This set-up requires that the EP-5 Power Supply Connector be placed in the camera before being connected to the EH-5a AC Adapter, which is then plugged into a working outlet to provide power for the camera. It isn't suitable for outings to secluded areas to provide power to your camera. To make sure you have enough battery power for extended-length outdoor shoots make sure to bring along an extra, fully-charged battery with you.
