compatibility with D5100
Hello,
I have the adapter but it seems like it is not compatible with D5100. Could you recommend an adapter that is? The end of the adapter does not resemble the end of a D5100 battery and also does not fit into the battery compartment of the D5100 camera.

You need the EP-5A.

The AC Adapter has a dummy battery (it's not the same as the EN-EL9a battery) that goes inside the camera then you plug the cable to the charger.

Question
compatibility with D5100
As you might know D5100 does not have EN-EL9a battery, it has EN-EL14. Therefore I guess that I have to use a different adapter, but which one? Thank you!

What you want is the EH-5A, I just got one when I thought I was ordering the EP-5 for my D5000.

Sorry for the previous answer, that's is correct is the EN-EL14. The adapter is compatible with the D5100 and also with the D5000. Is a dummy battery that goes inside the camera and the cable to the charger.

Trust me, I tried it. This adapter/connector does not fit into D5100. It is little bigger. It does not slide into the battery compartment. I just want to know which connector is the right one for D5100.

Can I use the battery charger that came with my USA D3100 when travelling in Europe?
Can the charger handle the 240 volts and charge my L ion battery? I would just use a simple plug adapter to plug into the round hole outlet in Spain.

The MH-24 charger supplied with your D3100 is rated at 100-240 volts. Withe the correct plug adapter it will charge the battery. The EP-5 is used in conjunction with the EH-5A to operate the camera on AC current.
