No, will only give you your Lat & Long & altitude. You need to figure out or remember in what direction you were headed. I know it would be a hassle, but if direction is so important, buy a small key chain compass.

So the UC-E4 or UC-E15 which are used to connect the GP-1's USB port with a computer's USB type B port are basically the same as a mini USB and a USB type B port, which I have already used to connect to the computer.

The GP-1 comes with a GP1-CA10 cable for use with cameras with 10 pin remote terminals and a GP1-CA90 cable for use with cameras with accessory terminals. Both the GP1-CA10 and the GP1-CA90 plug into GP1's accessory terminals (labeled #4 and #6 in the attached image) and not into the GP-1's USB port (labeled #2 in the attached image). When connecting to a computer the UC-E4 or UC-E15 is used to connect the GP-1's USB port with a computer's USB type B port.

Information on connecting the GP-1 to a computer can be found on page 18 of the GP-1 manual. A copy of the GP-1 manual can be downloaded from this address: http://support.nikonusa.com/app/ans...

the geoloc data is embedded in the image's EXIF data, so it's not visible. if you want the locations printed you'd need to find a program that can label images with data from the image's EXIF data. i'm not aware of such a program but i'm sure there surely exist some.

Question

Accuracy data

Does the GPS unit also transmit, besides the long.+lat.+alt. data, the estimated errors for them? And are those error estimates also recorded in the picture file? Also, the manual provides a horizontal error of 10 m for the GPS data (in optimal conditions), but how much is the corresponding altitude error?

Thanks.

GPS devices detect these signals and use them to triangulate their position, heading, speed, altitude and other information. This location information can be embedded in an image to show the photographer where the camera was when the photo was taken. This positioning information in a photo is useful for sorting and cataloging images. Just remember that the GPS information recorded is representative of where the camera is located, and not necessarily where the subject is located. The focal length of the lens may contribute to a difference in accuracy.
