Question

What do you need with this?

Since it says 'body' I'm guessing there may be other things that you need to actually be able to take pictures and such. What would you recommend a beginner get to go with the body? Or does the body include lenses and such....

Since this camera is JUST the body, that means it DOESNT come with Lenses, cases ,additional flashes etc. I recommend buying a kit that comes with all those items.
But a simple lense(s) works for now.
Hope this helps! :D

It comes without a lens (body only). The right selection for a lens will depend a lot on the type of photography that you are interesting. Some photographers look for faster lenses (large aperture ex. f/2.8), wide angle, Telephoto, Macro or zoom lenses.
Please visit our website and use the lens finder tool in order for you to make your selection base on your needs.

Nikon occasionally offers reconditioned products either directly to customers or through dealers. These products have been carefully reconditioned by Nikon Inc. to meet all factory specifications. They contain all original cables, batteries, manuals and other accessories and are protected by a 90-day limited warranty.

Exposure metering on the D5000 is not available when an AI or AIS lens is used. The D5000 will not display a meter reading using this lens. For more information about lenses that can be use with the D5000, please see the link below.
