What is a refurbished camera?
Would love to purchase one but ... were these sold units returned / repaired, store demos, etc? Is it a mechanical only refurb or are there scratches or other cosmetic flaws? All original packages/included items? Extended warranties available?

Refurbish cameras are cameras that have been carefully reconditioned by Nikon Inc. to meet all factory specifications.They contain all original cables, batteries, manuals and other accessories and are protected by a 90-day limited warranty.

Are these defective returns?
Let me understand these are guaranteed for 90 from manufactures defects, which are these returned because of defects? If so then question is is it worth a $570.00 us savings to cut the warranty period short by 9 months (compared to new)

Refurbish cameras are carefully reconditioned by Nikon Inc. to meet all factory specifications, and they work just as new cameras would. Not every refurbish camera or len was return because of a defect, However, because these products were opened, Nikon cannot sell them as new products.
It is really up to an idividual to decide on saving money and losing a warranty period.
