I believe the UC-E6 USB cable is supposed to work with all Coolpix cameras, but if you want one from Nikon, buy several. They only work a couple of times before dying and Nikon gives no warranty.
I bought this camera right before I went on a trip to England. When I plug this into both my computer and my camera nothing happens. Also I cannot figure out how to get the SD card out. After reading other comments about this camera and cord, I believe mine might be damaged. Could someone help me with one of these problems?

It would help if you told us the model number of your camera, but it might well be like the S3100 Coolpix.
It's just possible that your battery is fully charged, but you should see at least momentary signs of life at the camera if the computer is on. Modern computers don't totally shut down when they're "off"; mine keeps USB power on always, so I can charge with the computer off. (Of course, if you disconnect the power cord, everything is off.)
If the computer is up and running, connecting the camera should set things up (takes some seconds) so it's ready to transfer photos to the computer. (Look at your desktop.)
For removing your SD card, best bet is to see the Quick Start Guide. Try pushing the card in farther; that might trip a little ejector spring which will push it out far enough so you can easily grip it. (Be careful of static!) When you insert the card, it compresses that spring, and a latch holds it until you push in again.
Plug in the camera to the computer then turn the camera on. This cord will allow you to transfer the images to the computer. This cord will not charge your camera. Post another question asking how to get your SD card out and tell what camera you have so we can help you.

Try a good camera company; unfortunately, buying those separately is rather costly. The USB connector at the camera might be unusual; on my S3100, it's microminiature, and the original cable is really important.

I assume that you have the SD card in the camera. See the camera manual (it might be on CD-ROM, unfortunately) for the menu commands to move those photos. If you want to move from internal memory to computer, you might need to temporarily remove the SD card from the camera. (Do be sure your SD card is OK for your camera; I don't think all of them are. SDHC is probably OK.)
To move the photos to your computer, in most instances, you simply need to have the operating system up and running. Then, connect the camera via its accessory cable to a USB connector on the computer. (If you have an old computer without an USB connector, you need to consult a computer expert!) Modern operating systems (and Nikon!) try hard to make it easy to transfer your photos to a computer.
Please see page # 119 of the user's manual for the COOLPIX s8100 for instructions on how to transfer pictures from the internal memory to memory card. If you want to transfer the pictures to a computer, just conect the camera to it and start transfer.

If you have a camera that runs on 110 v (e.g., purchased in the US) and you want to charge it in Europe, for example (220v), then the converter that came with your camera should convert the current, as it most likely supports 110-240 v - but please check your converter to make sure. Mine came with eh-69p, which supports 110-240 v. You would only need a plug adapter for the converter.
I am no expert, but I believe that when the converter is plugged in (via the plug adapter), it converts the current from 220 to 110 and the 110 current runs up the cord into your device, which means you would not need a special cord that supports 220. The cord that came with the camera should work fine.

Nikon cameras have an auto switching (from 100v to 240V 50hz/60hz) battery charger that will work in most countries around the world. A/C adapters have similar characteristics. Always check the specification plate on your other battery chargers or A/C adapters as third party products may not support dual voltage systems. We do not suggest the use of third party battery chargers and A/C adapters with Nikon equipment. Note that the cord included with the Nikon charger or A/C adapter is designed for 110 volt use only. A power cord suitable for the local power system should be obtained on arrival, most airport shops and computer suppliers will carry these items which are typically used for laptop conmputer power supply connections. Be sure that the new cord you buy fits the Nikon adapter you wish to use it with and that it is rated for the voltage in your new location. While not recommended, a simple plug adapter may be used, but caution should be taken as the cord Nikon supplies is not rated for the higher voltage and may heat or fail.

The AW100 cannot be charged through the computer via the USB cable and there is no compatible AC Adapter/Charger. To charge the AW100's EN-EL12 battery please use the MH-65 charger that comes with the camera.
That is the correct cable but you can use any generic USB to mini USB cable. They are all the same any cab be purchased online or any electronics retailer.
No it is not. On one end of the cable its a standard usb plug and the other end is Nikon's proprietary plug for coolpix cameras such as the S3000, see photos.

Yes, you can use the UC-E6 USB cable to charge the battery inside the camera. You have to connect through the USB port (the same one you use to connect n order to transfer the photos to the computer).
