you're better off finding a third-party extension tube (like from phottix) that carry CPU contacts, and then you'll only use some light (1-2 EVs) and the infinity focus, all else will work.

You don't say which lenses, here is an article from nikon europe, there is a user manual download that lists compatible lenses and the resulting effect.
I don't do much macro so I don't use these.

Question

What effect will the PK-13 do on a 18-105mm lens along with a Macro Filter....would I be able to "convert" the lens on a better close up lens?

I know the lens is not a Close up lens; however, what i'm trying is to get around on macro pictures without having to invest a lot of money just yet....
If I'm way off....please explain the main purpose/after-effect of this product...
Thanks

well, with this extension tube you'll lose metering, autofocus, VR, etc... because it's an AI tube, that means no CPU contacts. i don't know if nikon makes a CPU-aware extension tube, however, third party vendors like phottix do. and, with an extension tube you'll get macro capability however you lose light (1 or 2 EVs depending on the length of the tube) and of course you lose infinity focus. still, for "quick'n'dirty" macro photography, an extension tube is definitely the way to go! :)

Does the Nikon PK-13 extension allow the auto focus, etc to work? How do you use the PK-13 with a D60?

I tried to use the PK-13 on my D60 with no luck. It says "no lens attached". It will not let me select an F stop and everything comes out black. My wife tried with her D90 with similar results

Nikon extension tubes do not have contacts so they will not transmit AF and metering info. Try Kenko, they make ext tubes with contacts. Also your 500mm f4 might not get enough light with an extension tube.
