why does the manual with the nikon d-7000 say to only use the monitor cover bm-11 when not in use.......can you infact leave it on with no harm??

I cant remove this cover

I'm trying to remove this cover from my nikon d7000 but i don't know how to remove it. Please help.
I want to remove it because there's dust on the screen.

Yes, all my Nikons have this cover. They do get scratched up but save the LCD which would be very expensive to replace.
