Question

Does the MB-D14 allow you to keep the camera EN-EL15 in the grip as well as the EN-EL15 in the power pack?

Just seems if you can't have/use both batteries the only point in the grip is to make portrait photos a little easier, but for $322 I'll manage. However, if you get the use of both batteries and the extended battery time then definitely worth it. I can't see anywhere where it explicitly states the answer to this.

First: I recommend an MB series MultiPower battery grip for all applicable Nikon bodies.

I'm thinking of getting the D600 and a D7100 to replace the two D7000s I have now. I also have the MB-D11 Battery Grip. The following might help you:

If you're working in a studio or similar setting, you might want to employ AC power. Now I don't have these two myself, but: there's the "EH-5a AC Adapter" & "EP-5b Power Connector," (EN-EL15 "Battery Eliminator"# available for the MB-D11. Now that AC "tether" combo might/should work for you in the MB-D14, because the MB-D14 uses the same EN-EL15 battery, and it also has the little rubber door at the end of the MS-D14 tray so the power cord can pass out of the MB-D14 body. #Look at the "Right" picture above, carefully.#

Also you can add a UC-E15 "USB Cable" tether to download pictures directly to your computer at the same time, or a WU-1b WiFi "Wireless Mobile Adapter" or an"EyeFi" card. #The D600 is EyeFi compatible.#

I shoot timelapse movies; as long as 10 hours so far. To be able to shoot for that long; I keep one EN-EL15 in the D7000 body, and an EN-EL15 in the MB-D11. In the Menus, I set the battery usage to use the MB-D11 first, and then the internal battery second. Then I "Hot Swap" the MS-D11 tray & its EN-EL15 battery in the MB-D11 every now and then, with a freshly charged EN-EL15. #The charge of the internal EN-EL15 battery is barely drained at all.)

NOTE: The manual says to turn the camera off before changing or removing the MS-D11 tray; so what I do is "against the rules." I don't recommend this. But I've always done it, hundreds of "Hot Swaps," and zero problems so far with 2 of these D7000 rigs. When shooting frames to make a timelapse movie, missed or out of "time" frames are very noticeable and make the end movie look bad. So I "Hot Swap" my batteries so I can avoid interrupting the shooting or the intervalometer.
