The WT-5 is all you need with the D4. The UT-1 and WT-5 together are used by the D800 or D7000 D-SLRs to provide various features that the WT-5 allows you to do with the D4.

No. It sits on the hot shoe for convenience, but you could place it on a bracket if you need to put a Speedlight in the hot shoe.

The WT-4A is a wireless transmitter. The UT-1 is a wired transmitter, meaning that when used with the D800, it will give you a wired Ethernet connection. For a wireless connection, you must use the UT-1 and the WT-5A together on the D800.

UT-1 Communication Unit with WT-5A cannot be used as a remote for a speedlight. The UT-1 Communications Unit/WT-5A Wireless Transmitter combination, when connected to the D800/D800E or D7000 D-SLRs, allows the camera to connect wirelessly to a computer or FTP server for downloading of images, in addition to controlling the camera remotely using Nikon’s Camera Control Pro 2 software.

Question

Are there any plans to make this UT1-WK capable of supporting iPads/iPhones for the d800 like the WT5 does with the D4

There does not seem to be a mechanism of configuring the WT5 through the UT1 or D800. Any plans to provide the D4 type functionality so that you can control the camera and see pictures etc on the iPad. Seems like basic stuff that someone spending this kind of money would expect?

Question

UT-1 with WT-5A in a grip?

Why doesn't Nikon create a UT-1 with WT-5A solution in an extended grip for the D800? I use my hot shoe for my pocket wizards and don't want some giant box dangling from the side of my camera. Even though the cost of this solution is flipping insane, I'd be all over it if it was in a nice, neat, extended grip type package instead of the current design.

Question

Length of cable

The cable that this uses, how long can it be?
(The whole unit looks rather too big and cumbersome to use with d800, and might be easier slung on a belt ...)
Thanks
