Keith D's answer is 100% backward. The V1 has an electronic viewfinder (1.44 megapixel resolution) and no built-in flash and the J1 has a flash but you have to use the screen to compose. I prefer using a viewfinder, it's easier to hold the camera steady.

J1 has a viewfinder and higher res screen no built in flash. V1 has a pop up flash, no viewfinder, there are a few others differences but these are some of the main ones.
