Refer to page 66-68 of the V1 manual and 76-78 of the V2 manual.
The light on top of the GP-N100 blinks Red when searching for satellite signal, and Green when satellite signal is acquired.

GPS Position information can be view in the setup menu. While the GPS is connected to the camera, Press the menu button> Select the Wrench (setup)>> Select GPS>> Select Position.

When you take a picture while the position information is available, the GPS information is recorded to the image metadata. You can view this information in a picture software such a Nikon View NX 2 and click on the map icon at the top of the sofware to launch the map which will show the location that the pictures were shot.

When using the GP-N100 the EVF cannot be used. The USB connection is used to connect the unit to a computer not to the camera.

The GP-N100 GPS Unit snaps into place when attached to a compatible Nikon1 camera body's accessory port. The "Unlock" switch is used to release the GP-N100 from the accessory port when removing the device.
