Questions & Answers for Nikon Inc. MH-27 Battery Charger

Question

My Mh-27 charger came with an adapter on it - how do I remove it?

The charger I got came with an adapter on it and I don't know how to remove it. I got teh J1 lens kit and am unsure why it even came with the adapter attached and all the manuals are in a different language. Need guidance on how to remove the adapter to use the charge in US.

Hugo First, it is not the case of it being a 'grey market' charger. To simplify manufacturing, Nikon make a single spec for the MH-27 charger which has a USA plug on the back. For Customers who purchase Nikon equipment abroad, they receive a click on adapter to match their country's electric plugs. The design is such that the adapter clicks into place and locks onto the charger.

To remove the adapter, stick a paper clip in the two exposed holes on the side of the adapter assembly by pushing in, the clips come loose and you can pull the adapter back off of the charging unit. Now it will be back to US compatibility.

A note to Nikon - Perhaps you can make the locking on the adapter not so strong as it is handy to remove it when traveling to the states.

Sounds like you got a "grey market" import version of your camera. Let me guess: you got a good deal on your camera. Unfortunately, what you didn't get was a warranty, or the appropriate accessories for the US market. Sad to say, some people game the system for their own advantage, and people such as yourself end up paying the price for being taken in by unscrupulous sellers. The bad news is, the only way you can "fix" your adapter is to buy a new one -- either from your local authorized Nikon dealer, or from the Nikon store. "Grey" items are not supported by Nikon USA.

Although Nikon doesn't state it clearly, yes, this charger is multi-voltage. Just beware that you might need a wall plug adapter while overseas.
