If I understand your question - The answer would be; Yes.
Turning the camera in portrait mode would simply require you to rotate the DR-5 90 degrees left or right. Your view would be in Portrait. The DR-5 allows for a more top down view angle.
- When I use my DR-5 in the field I often find I need the DR-5 to be less than 90 degrees, allowing me a more comfortable viewing angle slightly from the side. The DR-5 is very flexible in this regard.

The DR-5 comes ready to screw on your D700. It does not require an adapter, you remove your stock eye piece and screw on the DR-5.

Don't do like I did... make sure you remember where you place your original eye piece for later use.

Question

Replacement Eye Cup - When and Where

It has been almost a year now waiting on an answer to this question.
Is there a Nikon Replacement Rubber Eye Cup for the DR-5?

I have a DR-5 that is difficult to use without the eye piece and have looked high and low.
I found the old part number (1K460-032) but not able to find a way to buy it.

The repair link NIKON offers has no option for an eyepiece repair. Thus, I am left to select other option which then states NIKON is not able to determine the repair cost.

I want to know the cost before I waste my time and the environment for a SIMPLE rubber eye cup replacement. This is not acceptable, in order to replace the part, Nikon must have the part and therefore knows all values in order to say what the cost is. what is the COST of a replacement eye cup for a DR-5?

The DR-5 attach to the viewfinder eyepiece at a right angle, allowing the image in the viewfinder to be viewed from above when the camera is in the horizontal shooting position. The DR-5 supports diopter adjustment and can also magnify the view through the viewfinder by 2 × for greater precision when framing (note that the edges of the frame will not be visible when the view is magnified). Before attaching a diopter-adjustment viewfinder lens, remove the DK-17 viewfinder eyepiece by closing the viewfinder shutter to release the eyepiece lock and then unscrewing the eyepiece. Rotate (i.e., moved side to side) the DR-5 for placement at the most convenient viewing position. Set the reproduction ratio to either 1:1 or 1:2. Look through the attachment and turn the diopter adjustment ring until the image on the focusing screen appears sharp and crisp. If the image becomes unclear after reajusting the reproduction ratio, turn the diopter adjustment ring again.
