Question

How can I use an SB700 remotely without an additional flash. ie. silhouette picture

Would the SG-31R ir panel work or do I need something different in order to not have any front lighting so that a silhouette picture can be created?

You can only use one at a time on camera as they both are fitted to the hot shoe

Yes it will fit the D5300 and yes you could get the same effect by covering the flash though not recommended as it may cause the flash to over heat.

How to prevent Built in flash from firing when it is in Commander mode?

When i set the built in flash in commander mode to ( -- ) setting , to do not fire when i use the wireless SB700 flashes as a studio flashes.in the camera is D750
unfortunately it fires also .
how can i prevent it from firing ?

The built in flash will need to fire to trigger the SB-700 that is being used remotely. When you disable the camera's built-in flash (--), a small amount of light is still emitted in order to trigger the remote flash. This light is not powerful enough to impact exposure.
