Some math to help answer your question: 30 seconds = two times per minute 2 shots/minute * 60 minutes/hour * 7 hours = 840 shots
The MC-36 can count up to 399 shots. If you need the MC-36 to begin and end shooting for 7 hours in an unattended scenario, this will not work (840 > 399). However, if you can return at or after the 7 hours have elapsed, you can simply configure the MC-36 to shoot every 30 seconds until the timer is stopped manually. This is done by setting "N" to "--" instead of a number.
I need 2500 exposures in a time lapse, so the in-built software doesn't allow for it.

The MC-36 uses a 10-pin cable which the D7000 does not have. My only suggestion for this is to use the Nikon Camera Control Pro which you can set Time Lapse for as many pictures as you want or until you tell it to stop. You will need to carry a laptop with you is the only downside but works like a charm. I was able to capture the sunset every 3 seconds for 1 hour to create a nice smooth time lapse sunset. Here is a link for the software download page: http://support.nikonusa.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/17029/~/camera-control-pro---2.8.0
I shoot with D200, D300, D700, & will be purchasing the D800 when not back-ordered.

I know it's not listed as compatible, but it does use the same pin mount.... So in theory, it should work. But, at a $114 price point, it would be nice to know for sure.... Hence the question posed to Nikon Tech.

I will soon have a D200. I'm interested in the MC-36 for use as an interval timer. I want to utilize the mirror lockup function but I understand that it requires two presses of the shutter button to actually take a picture. Can the MC-36 keep the mirror locked up?

Yes, you press the button down and slide the lock up so the shutter will stay open.
I now have the MC-36 and it's not working as I expected. 1# camera in MLU + bulb 2# slide lock forward on MC-36 3) start timer
If, for example I wanted to take qty 5 x 60 second pictures and keep the mirror up all the time I would expect to set Delay 0 Duration 60 sec Interval 60 #+2 or 3) sec n 5
My result is one picture. What gives?

I will be using the MC-36 to shoot time lapse during construction of a convention set over a period of 9 days. Triggering 1 shot per minute, 24/7. How long should the battery life last? Should I change them out daily? Thanks!
